Ik vind dat allemaal erg optimistisch om gelijk met nieuwe data te komen. Ik kan me momenteel toch slecht voorstellen dat er over 5 maanden weer duizenden mensen door Europa reizen en in Spanje samen komen voor een festival.

Zo lang er geen vaccin is veronderstel ik het festivalseizoen gesloten. Zelfs Le Guess Who? zie ik niet gebeuren dit jaar.

There are things that only happen once in a lifetime. The current global COVID-19 health crisis is, unfortunately, one of them. But it won’t be the only one. The spirit of solidarity and collective response of society in the face of this emergency will live on for a long time, and will allow us to embrace exceptional situations and overcome the challenge… and to literally embrace each other once it is over. Faced with this constantly changing scenario, the restrictions imposed by the authorities on the celebration of public shows and on the free movement of people (making the participation of the announced artists difficult and in many cases impossible) and in coordination with the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Barcelona City Council and the Sant Adrià de Besòs City Council, we are forced to postpone the upcoming edition of Primavera Sound Barcelona for reasons of force majeure known to us all. Our absolute priority has always been to guarantee the safety of our audience, artists and all the people involved in the festival.
For this reason, given the exceptional nature of the situation in which we find ourselves, Primavera Sound Barcelona 2020 will take place from 26th to 30th August. We feel obliged and responsible to contribute insofar as we can to the survival of the live music scene, whose role will be key to the return to normality after this absolutely unprecedented situation that has never been faced before by the cultural sector and all its agents: artists and their teams, agencies, promoters, venues, festivals, stage builders, technical and production teams, bar staff, cleaning and security staff, and in general the thousands of people involved in the sector. We thank all of them for their perseverance and contribution. On our side, and with the indispensable support of Pull & Bear, Heineken® and Desperados, adidas, Aperol, Lotus and all of the festival sponsors, we will make every effort to ensure that this change, imposed as a result of the current global health crisis, affects the festival’s programme as little as possible.
The tickets already purchased for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2020 will continue to be valid for the new dates. Once the state of alarm decreed by the Government of Spain is over as well its possible extensions, we will give you more information and will reactivate the ticket sales. Moreover soon we will give you more details about NOS Primavera Sound Porto 2020. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding in the face of this unprecedented situation.
Let's all face this together. We will get through this together. And we will celebrate our 20th anniversary together. We are waiting for you in the Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona at the end of August. Primavera in summer, for once in a lifetime.

Gezien de heftige situatie in Spanje had een afgelasting wat netter geweest, vind ik. daarbij vraag ik me af welke artiesten niet erbij zullen zijn. Hoe kun je nu al iets verplaatsen zonder te weten wat programma zal zijn?

Of juist niet. De vraag is hoeveel artiesten hun hele Europese tour gaan omgooien enkel om op een uitgekleed Primavera te staan in augustus.
Genoeg artiesten die enkel in juni/juli touren maar nog niks hadden opstaan voor aug/sept. Die zouden dan weer een tour moeten gaan optuigen voor die periode om het rendabel te kunnen maken.

Of juist niet. De vraag is hoeveel artiesten hun hele Europese tour gaan omgooien cancellen.

Gezien de situatie in de VS nog erger lijkt te gaan worden dan bij ons, weet ik niet of Amerikaanse bands naar Europa willen/mogen komen. Verder is dit gewoon vechten tegen de bierkaai lijkt me, het doel is enigszins nobel maar wekt -zoals hierboven al werd aangehaald- tevergeefse hoop.

Hoewel ik ook nog moet zien of het echt doorgaat, vind ik de inzet wel te prijzen. Zeker aangezien ze geen kaarten verkopen zolang de lock-down in werking is, dus het is ook niet alsof ze mensen die nog geen kaart hebben proberen op te lichten ofzo.

Voor de zekerheid maar vast voor een zacht prijsje een kamer geboekt in het Hilton om de hoek, wat normaal gesproken al helemaal vol zit natuurlijk. Elk nadeel heb zijn voordeel.

De helft van de groep waar ik afgelopen jaren mee was, is ook werkzaam voor Into The Great Wide Open, vooralsnog gepland in hetzelfde weekend. Dat maakt al dat ze er minder rouwig om zijn over te slaan, of Primavera eind augustus nu doorgaat of niet. (lijkt mij en hen sterk).

In any case, it is obvious to me the festival is buying time; I fully doubt they are in a position to refund tickets to all or to a high or medium % of attendees. That money is already in someone else hands.

Wellicht kan Uplift nog wat uit Spaanse artikel halen. Maar klinkt allemaal vrij heftig. Kan dus goed zijn dat een Primavera al geld heeft uitgegeven en geen refunds kan doen, of althans niet aan iedereen? Geldt natuurlijk voor meerdere festivals, die al gages hebben betaald of terreinhuur moesten betalen etc.

Gaat er vooral om dat Spanje een achterlijk land is en er inderdaad totaal geen regeling is voor force majeure. De industrie vraagt dus een reeks maatregelen. De analyse van E-Festivals mbt de aankondiging van PS is dus gewoon spot on.

RIP Primavera

Opgelet: de bron is ABC (een extreemrechtse krant) en het wordt ge-echoed door nota bene De Telegraaf.

Anderzijds houdt dit gewoon steek, maar dat geldt niet enkel voor Spanje. Ik hoop op bepaalde zones binnen de E.U. (buiten Frankrijk, Italië en Spanje) waar de landsgrenzen open mogen blijven. B.v. Noord- en Oost-Europa en wellicht met meer restricties voor Centraal-Europa en de Alpenlanden. Daarmee zou ik al énorm blij zijn. Dat we met z'n allen hetzelfde zouden doen als Spanje, kan alsnog. Maar of zoiets mogelijk is voor kleine landen als Nederland en België, is nog maar de vraag.

Hoe groot schatten jullie de kans dat Primavera nog wel doorgaat dit jaar, in welke vorm dan ook?

Zou er vrede mee hebben als ze het festival nog een tweede maal verplaatsen (naar oktober/november) en dat ik dan tenminste nog ergens heen kan dit jaar.
