RE: Primavera Sound - thomas9790 - 29-01-2019

RE: Primavera Sound - thomas9790 - 29-01-2019

Radiohead was ongetwijfeld goed toen, maar zó goed?

RE: Primavera Sound - Kalters - 29-01-2019

9 maanden later was daar inderdaad een klein dinosaurusje.

Hier moet een gruwelijk verhaal achterzitten.

Klopt ook! Dinosaur jr was heel goed,
maar ik vond de show van The Last Shadow Puppets
het beste van het festival. Niet velen zullen die show hebben gezien
juist ivm Radiohead.

Quote:With 117 days still to go before the week of Primavera Sound 2019 Barcelona, there are two pieces of news that are worth mentioning. The first one is that the concert by the legendary trumpet player Jon Hassell will in the end take place on Thursday 30th May instead of on Saturday 1st June. We remind you that this is one of the very few concerts that the American musician will play this year.

Another change comes with Built to Spill who will add a new layer to the repertoire of their concert at the festival. We can now confirm that the American band will also celebrate the twentieth anniversary of their acclaimed record Keep It Like A Secret on stage at Primavera Sound, playing the album in its entirety to commemorate their return to the festival.

RE: Primavera Sound - JorisR - 31-01-2019

Nostalgie schmostalgie, maar Keep It Like A Secret is wel m'n favoriete Built To Spill-album.

Quick recap and translation of the AMA to Gabi Ruiz (Primavera Director) from the Exiliados Forum

about specific artists:

-Childish Gambino: probably the most complicated artist I have ever faced. I give up after almost three years of exhausting negotiations.

-J Balvin: his last album surprised me as much as anyone. Suddenly a lot of people I trust started recommending their album. Sounded like a joke but out of respect I got a copy and listened to it trying to separate my prejudices. And suddenly I saw myself with a smile in my mouth and moving my feet. Out of curiosity I went to see him live. He seduced me. I was shocked, but I saw clearly that we should try to take it to Primavera.

-Drake: Drake's case is very special. He is an artist from another dimension, little or nothing to do with the rest. He is a guy who does no promotion, no interviews and is exposed very little in the media. One thing: his live shows are a nightmare ... technically impressive, lights, drones, a thousand things that I had never seen. But the show .... A karaoke. I saw it live, and it left me cold.

-Lana del Rey: I really like her, but we have never agreed with money and dates.

- Erykah Badu: She will play at one of the big stages. She would not have accepted another place.

-Migos: "Migos" situation was very ugly, I don't think we work more with them.

-Future: Of course he does not give me 100% confidence that will play...

-Janelle Monáe: I thought it was essential to have her in this edition and I took the negotiation beyond normal. It might looked like a whim.

- Vampire Weekend : We tried this edition but they didn't want to have anything to do with us.

-Some artist that i'm excited to see live: Lucy Dacus, Soccer Mommy, Snail Mail, Boy Pablo, Yves Tumor, Hatchie, Clairo...

about primavera sound itself:

-This year there will be craft beer.

-There will be changes to the Hidden Stage but i can't say anything yet.

-The festival has never followed a clear stylistic line, but it is true that since a few editions, what we call "urban music" (a term that I do not know very well what it means) have been making an increasingly larger gap in the festival. But as I say it has been a gradual change and that responds to the current record reality. If you look well we always try to find the proposals with the highest quality and that is reflected in our coincidence with the majority of international music critics. In the background, we do not invent anything, we just go with what happens in the world of music.

-The gender equality thing is something that must be done and that's the New Normal. We are neither smarter nor more cool than anyone to do something that is obvious, which must be of absolute normality. Neither marketing strategy nor medal to the most correct. We are not looking for any of that. We want equality and we want it now. In music, at work, in the streets, in schools and discos. Fighting always against that historical machismo that accompanies us all. Me, the first, for the record.

-I think this year there is a lack of heavy metal... we had several very cool things that fell at the last minute. Bad luck, we will try to correct it in the next edition.

-I miss more world music, but I don't think that is what will be enhanced in the future. The black musics are the ones that will mark the next five years.

-They have offered us to make festivals even in the United Arab Emirates.

-Each department has its own demons. What worries me most during the festival are the sound problems, the complaints of the neighbors. In Barcelona they are very strict with the issue of sound pollution and I suffer a lot by imagining the police sealing the sound equipment. As much as we work the sound and make measurements in the most affected homes to not exceed decibels, any gust of wind or any unscrupulous sound technician can make you have a serious problem at a certain point. Too much pressure. This year they forced me to take out life insurance with an English company with specialists in these subjects. Well, it turns out that the second profession with the most chance of palming at work was that of promoter of concerts.

-When I started this festival I was 28 years old. I would like the average age to remain there but if we continue to schedule the same bands then it will be difficult to contact that generation. The proportion of national and foreign public has been stable for years, I do not think that now will change too much. In recent years we have managed to rejuvenate the Middle Ages while maintaining the same proportion of foreigners. I hope that within another 5 years the festival will continue to take risks and will continue to be an international benchmark. Although I hope to take a step aside and let others do the poster. I said I would retire at 50 years old.

-I have a band in my head for 2020 and many ideas and a lot of desire to celebrate the anniversary.

RE: Primavera Sound - matthijs603 - 03-02-2019

Haha wtf, die opmerking bij Vampire Weekend?

RE: Primavera Sound - hythloth - 03-02-2019
